Navigating the Middle: Managing Up and Managing Down
This session is designed to help participants achieve their greatest productivity as a team leader and middle manager. A middle manager is expected to lead while holding onto their vision as they report to a supervisor and lead others. Understanding your roles and responsibilities is critical to middle managing in a highly functioning ecosystem. With communication and work systems identified, relationships will function at a higher level, work flow will be easier to anticipate and delegate, and expectations are better managed. Whether you serve as a senior administrator or program director, this workshop will increase your awareness of adaptable systems to unify your vision. This session is appropriate for someone with a few years into their position. Through a series of exercises and group discussion, participants will engage to define roles and responsibilities, articulate systems of communication, and clarify work systems for themselves and their team.
Key Takeaways:
- Learn to articulate values and vision while collaborating with colleagues.
- Identify communication and work systems to strengthen team relationships and develop greater functioning through work flow, delegating, and managing
- Understand how to build a strong community through role clarity, communication, and work flow as a leader of a team and a direct report
- Learn how to better understand as an individual, your vision and the role you play in your work with the constituencies who report to you and to whom you report
This workshop will be presented by Lucretia Wells, Senior Design Partner of Design Group International
